A few years ago, I went on a week-long camping trip to the Boundary Waters in Northern Minnesota. This was a canoeing adventure in a million-acre designated wilderness and it was the first time my friend and I had ever done something like that. A real challenge for us in a vast wilderness. On the second night we felt disorientated and lost. We had plenty of supplies but were clearly off the planned route. We pitched our tent and settled in for the night in hopes of reorienting ourselves in the morning.  The night was cool and a pack of timber wolves howled off in the distance sending shivers up our spine. The next morning we grabbed our map and set out to get back on track. The map pointed us towards a loon's call echoing across the rocky, forested shores. The loon appeared after a long paddle across the lake - it struggled to move. We noticed it had green tinted fishing line tangled around its leg and bill. From our canoe, we were able to net the loon and remove the line.  We called him GreenLoon! As if trying to help us on our way, that loon swam directly towards a portage marker and we were back on track.

GreenLoon represents accepting challenges and confronting the unknown.  Finding yourself in order to find ourselves, we must all seek out our own personal sense of purpose and passion. For me, on that trip, it was getting lost and finding my way. And providing a little help to a friend in need!
